Nollywood actress Adunni Ade is mourning the loss of her mother, who died on Sunday, October 18, after a prolonged illness.
The Nigerian American actress announced the sad news on Monday in an emotional tribute shared on her Instagram page, expressing her grief while committing her mother’s soul to the mercy of Almighty Allah.
“With a heavy heart and submission to the will of Almighty Allah, I announce the passing of my beloved mother, who returned to her Creator on October 18 after a long battle with illness,” she wrote.
In her tribute, Ade, whose full name is Adunni Adewale-Raji, prayed for Allah to forgive her mother’s shortcomings, grant her eternal rest and reunite them in paradise.
“Ya Allah, forgive her shortcomings, have mercy upon her, make her grave spacious and filled with light, and grant her Al-Jannah Firdaus. Grant us sabr and strength as we navigate this painful loss. Ameen,” the actress wrote.

She also expressed her love for her late mother in a heartfelt farewell, praying for strength for the family as they come to terms with the loss.
“Mum, I love you. May Allah grant you eternal peace and reunite us in Jannah. Ameen,” she added.
Ade disclosed that her mother is survived by her children, grandchildren, sisters and other loved ones. She said details of the funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
The actress had previously spoken publicly about her mother’s health challenges. In October 2019, she shared photographs of her mother receiving medical care in a hospital, describing her as a strong woman who continued to fight despite her condition.
At the time, Ade expressed hope for her mother’s recovery and spoke about her desire to celebrate her while she was still alive. She described her mother as a fighter and reaffirmed her love and belief that she would overcome her health struggles.
The actress’s latest announcement brings a painful chapter to that long period of concern, as she and her family now mourn the loss of a loved one whose health had been a source of worry for years.
Messages of sympathy and prayers have followed the announcement on social media, with the actress’s tribute highlighting both the depth of her grief and her faith in the face of loss.
Ade has built a career in Nollywood, featuring in Yoruba and English-language productions. Her screen credits include She Must Be Obeyed, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti and Lakatabu.
As the family grieves, the actress’s message remains one of love, prayer and hope for reunion in the hereafter, with burial arrangements yet to be announced.
