…Uduaghan Family Mourns ‘Father Figure’
Former Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, has died at the age of 71, leaving behind a legacy of public service and memories cherished by family members, friends, political associates and people across the state.
Uduaghan died on the morning of Monday, October 19, 2026, according to a statement issued by his family and signed by Toju Anire Uduaghan.
In the statement, the family described his death as a profound loss, remembering him not only as a former governor but also as a source of strength, a father figure and a respected elder whose life touched many people.
“He was a source of strength, a father figure, a beloved brother and uncle, and a respected elder. We will deeply miss his presence and forever cherish the memories and legacy he leaves behind,” the family said.
The statement reflected the personal loss felt by those closest to Uduaghan, whose years in public office placed him at the centre of Delta State’s political and administrative affairs for more than a decade.
Before his election as governor, Uduaghan had built a career in public administration, serving as Delta State Commissioner for Health from 1999 to 2003 before becoming Secretary to the State Government in 2003.
He held the secretary’s position until 2007, when he assumed office as governor. He governed Delta State for two terms, leaving office in 2015 after eight years in leadership.
During his tenure, his administration pursued human and infrastructural development, making his years in office a significant part of the state’s recent political history.
For his family, however, his passing represents a deeply personal loss beyond his political achievements. The statement conveyed the pain of losing a loved one while expressing gratitude for his life and years of service.
The family also prayed for strength and comfort for everyone mourning his death, expressing confidence that the memories he created and the lives he touched would continue to preserve his legacy.
“Your memory will forever remain in our hearts, and your legacy will endure in the lives of those you touched,” the family added.
Uduaghan’s death marks the end of a chapter in Delta State’s political history, bringing renewed attention to a career that spanned public administration, healthcare leadership and eight years as governor.
