Sipho Ndlovu, a South African singer popularly known as Brickz, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of raping a relative.
The Kwaito star is alleged to have raped the relative in 2013 when she was 16.
Brickz was handed the sentence on Tuesday in a Roodepoort magistrates’ court in Johannesburg.
The ‘Sweety My Baby’ singer took in the teenager after she lost her parents. He was said to have threatened to kill her after the alleged incident.
The victim was quoted as saying that she wanted to end her life as a result of the trauma and fear of Brickz.
“She tried to look up to him as her father, and he should’ve seen this,” said Pratisha Salie, the state prosecutor.
“She had locked herself in a cupboard, and at some point, she was found with many pills in her possession, and was suicidal.
“The victim couldn’t come to terms with the ordeal, she indicated that she was robbed of what she considered her ‘prize possession’, something that could never be replaced.
“She questions and blames herself as to why he chose her when she saw him as her father.”
The state had asked the court to sentence Brickz to a minimum of 10 years in prison for the alleged incident.
The prosecutor said there was no reason for the court deviate from giving him the minimum 10-year sentence.
