Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), on Monday, 13 May 2024, successfully apprehended two syndicates linked to a series of high-profile burglaries and thefts in Ilorin.
The CDPRO Kwara State Command, ASC 1 Ayoola Michael Shola, reiterated that the arrest of the two syndicates, Garuba Kabir, 28, and Nasir Raheem, 30, was prompted by numerous complaints from shop owners on repeated burglaries within Apalara Area, along Alikma University Road in Ilorin.
According to him, following numerous complaints by business owners within the area, the Tracking Unit of Kwara NSCDC launched an intelligence-led operation with respect to a series of burglaries at warehouses, stores, and supermarkets within the area.
He added that “the arrests followed reports from several shop owners in the Apalara area, who had complained about repeated burglaries resulting in the loss of valuable items worth millions of naira.”
“The suspects had recently targeted four shops along Ali-Hikma University and New Yidi Road, Irewolede in Ilorin, stealing goods of significant value.” He said
Further investigation led authorities to the gang’s storage location in Malete, where they recovered stolen goods worth millions of Naira including food items, phone accessories, and solar gadgets.
The Kwara State NSCDC Commandant, Dr. Umar J.G. Mohammed, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eliminating crime in the state and he urged the public to assist by offering reliable information, which is essential for effectively preventing and addressing criminal activities.
