Arsenal signed France striker Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon for a club-record fee that could rise to 60 million euros ($68m, £52.56m), the two clubs confirmed on Wednesday.
Arsene Wenger has tracked the France international for a number of years and has eventually landed the striker who scored 37 goals in all competitions last season.
The 26-year-old is reported to have agreed a five-year deal and becomes the most expensive player in Arsenal’s history, eclipsing the £42m Wenger paid to sign Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid in 2013.
Lacazette had previously been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid and was said to have his heart set on linking up with his compatriot Antoine Griezmann, but the Spanish club’s transfer ban, which will prevent Diego Simeone from making any signings until January, forced him to reconsider.
