Oluchukwu Adetunji

I remembered visiting a female friend of mine who was at that in Lagos on business trip. We gisted about her journey and life generally. She asked to drop me off at home after what appeared to be a long day of catching up after not seeing for years. On our way home, she played a song, and what struck me about it was the artist’s heavenly voice. She told me she was also introduced to the song by her friend and ever since then, she plays the song almost everyday. It has become her song for traveling and exercising. I decided to do some research about the artist, The said artist is Oluchukwu Adetunji, a UK-based singer-songwriter, making waves in the music scene with her soul-stirring voice and heartfelt lyrics. I reached out to her via one of her socials and she seems like a very likeable person. i hardly write about gospel artists but i felt the urge to tell Oluchukwu Adtunji’s story. Originally from Anambra, Nigeria, Oluchukwu’s sound is deeply influenced by her African roots.

Her educational journey spans business and management, but music has always been her true calling. She fell in love with singing when she realized it was more than just a talent – it was a ministry.

She told me she grew up in a Catholic home, and she was exposed to a wide range of musical influences, including R-Kelly, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, and Sinach. She’s drawn to voices that carry vulnerability and strength, and her worship music background has shaped her understanding of God and herself ¹.

For her, the purpose of doing music is to to use her voice to draw people closer to God, reminding them of hope, gratitude, and faith in difficult seasons. She said she want her songs to be a safe space where people feel seen, comforted, and encouraged.

As an artist, balancing consistency with her many roles in life is Oluchukwu’s biggest challenge, while staying true to her message in a fast-paced world. Her unique sound is characterized by the heart behind it – telling stories of faith, gratitude, and real-life encounters with God.

We also discussed about her latest project and she revealed that the project deeply rooted in gratitude, reflecting on how far God has brought her. It’s a personal thank you turned into a song, marking a fresh start creatively and personally.

Oluchukwu finds inspiration in everyday life, prayer, scripture, and quiet moments with God. Her creative process involves humming melodies, recording, and letting lyrics form naturally.
