The Shell Zenith Bank Hall at the MUSON Centre, Lagos, was alive with festive energy as the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON), in partnership with Mandilas Group Limited, presented the annual Mandilas Christmas Concert. Now a much-anticipated cultural event, the concert celebrated Nigeria’s rich choral tradition and the joy of the season.
Under the direction of Prof. Emeka Nwokedi, the MUSON Choir and Chamber Orchestra delivered a diverse programme of classical, contemporary, and Nigerian compositions. Highlights included Awon angeli tin korin, God is good, Amuworo Anyi O u Nwa, Kaabo by Sam Ojukwu, and works by Adeboye Banjo and Victus Eze. The choir’s performance was both technically precise and emotionally engaging, reflecting MUSON’s reputation for musical excellence.
The choir, composed of some of Nigeria’s finest trained voices, delivered a polished and expressive performance throughout the evening. Emmanuel Adeniji, performing as part of the ensemble, contributed with disciplined vocal technique and expressive delivery, adding depth to the choir’s overall sound. His participation alongside fellow singers reflects both the collective artistry of the MUSON Choir and his own emerging presence within Nigeria’s classical and choral music community.
Mandilas’ Group CEO, Ola Debayo‑Doherty, described the concert as “a way of bringing people together … when you invest in music, you bring a lot of joy and laughter to the people,” highlighting the event’s community and cultural impact.
The evening concluded with Maranatha, a Christmas Musical by Gabriel Angelo Ekum, followed by audience participation in festive classics such as We Wish You a Merry Christmas and Feliz Navidad. Attendees left the hall inspired and uplifted, affirming the concert’s status as one of Nigeria’s most respected annual musical events.
This performance not only showcased Nigeria’s exceptional vocal talent but also underscored MUSON’s ongoing commitment to nurturing musicians and engaging communities through high-calibre musical experiences.
