The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expanded its campaign structure for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, bringing together governors, serving ministers, former state governors and prominent opposition-linked politicians in a revised Presidential Campaign Council.
Among the notable names on the list are Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and former Gombe State Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo.
The revised list, released on Tuesday, October 13, comes ahead of the planned inauguration of the campaign council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.
The appointments place several influential political figures in positions covering state-level coordination, mobilisation, fundraising, media communications and stakeholder engagement as the ruling party prepares for the 2027 general election.
Opposition figures take centre stage
Wike’s inclusion is particularly notable because he remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite his public support for Tinubu’s re-election.
The former Rivers State governor has been appointed coordinator of Tinubu’s campaign in Rivers State and the FCT, placing him at the centre of efforts to organise political support in both locations.
Adeleke, who won re-election as Osun governor on the Accord Party platform, has been named campaign coordinator for Osun State, while Soludo, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), will coordinate the campaign in Anambra State.
Their appointments bring politicians associated with different parties into the same presidential campaign structure, underscoring the importance of political alliances and state-level networks in preparations for the election.
Dankwambo, a PDP senator and former governor of Gombe State, has also been named a campaign council adviser. Obafemi George will serve as an adviser on media matters.
Governors and ministers assigned key roles
Beyond the state coordinators, the revised council includes several serving governors and federal officials with responsibilities across the campaign’s administrative and operational structure.
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has been appointed Director of Finance, while Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Nigeria Revenue Service Chairman Zacch Adedeji will oversee fundraising.
Minister of Works David Umahi has been named Deputy Director-General for Infrastructure and Sensitisation, while Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu will serve as Deputy Director-General, South II.
Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule has been appointed South-South Deputy Coordinator for State Assemblies Mobilisation.
The appointments reflect the council’s emphasis on combining political coordination with fundraising, legislative engagement and mobilisation across the country.
Media, sports and stakeholder mobilisation
The campaign’s communications team will include Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo, House of Representatives member Abdulmumin Jibrin, Lere Olayinka and Segun Sowunmi.
Former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has been named Deputy Director for Sports Sector Mobilisation, while businessman Ayiri Emami will serve as Director for Special Duties.
Former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje will oversee stakeholder mobilisation, with former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola appointed South-West Zonal Coordinator for Stakeholders’ Mobilisation.
The inclusion of figures from entertainment, sports, business and regional political networks broadens the range of sectors represented in the campaign council.
Yari retains leadership role
Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari will retain his position as Director-General of the campaign council.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole remains Deputy Director-General for Mobilisation, while President Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, will continue as Deputy Director-General for Administration.
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma retains his position as council secretary, assisted by APC National Secretary Ajibola Bashiru as deputy secretary and Hadiza Bala-Usman as assistant secretary.
Dele Alake will remain the campaign spokesman, while James Faleke continues as Deputy Director-General for Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring.
A broader political coalition ahead of 2027
The revised campaign council signals the APC’s effort to organise a wide-ranging political structure ahead of the next presidential election, with responsibilities distributed among party leaders, governors, federal officials and politicians whose influence extends beyond the ruling party.
The appointments, however, do not in themselves establish how individual political figures or their supporters will perform during the campaign. Their practical significance will depend on how the council coordinates its activities and translates its state-level appointments into voter engagement.
With the inauguration scheduled for Wednesday, the campaign council is expected to provide the organisational framework for Tinubu’s re-election effort as political parties prepare for the 2027 contest.
