Senator Olamilekan Adeola representing Lagos West has appraised the 2019 appropriation bill, describing it as the best budget in recent years.
President Muhammadu Buhari, penultimate week, presented N8.83 trillion budget proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly.
Senator Adeola who was among the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers who cheered the president during the presentation, stated that the budget will stimulate economic growth, just as it seeks to consolidate on the remarkable achievements of the Buhari-led administration.
Speaking at his Egbeda residence in Lagos state on Wednesday – where he hosted his constituents to an annual end-of-the-year party celebration, Adeola pointed out that, whatever may have been said to portray the budget in bad light should be discarded as the economy would benefit immensely from the budget.
He said it was the first time any government would earmark as much as N2 .14 trillion to service mainly local debts.
“This is a very progressive budget. This is budget taking Nigeria to the next level.
“For the first time in the history of this nation, we have a budget where N2 .14 trillion has been earmarked for the payment of debts.
“And basically, 80 per cent of these debts are local debts because much of the N2.14 trillion will be used to pay local contractors.
“What that means for the country is that there will be more money in the economy, because local contractors will be stimulated through payments,” he said.
Adeola said there would be more investments in the economy once those contactual obligations have been met by government.
He, however, stated that the ruling party remains committed and determined to taking the country to enviable heights among comity of nations.
“As you can see, the APC government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari is determined to ensure that it fulfils the promises made to Nigerians. And the government is not just paying lip service as the results are there for us to see,” he said.
He equally urged his constituents to be resolute in their bid to return the ruling APC to power at the forthcoming general elections scheduled to hold next year. The senator who is seeking re-election also urged the constituents to ensure that the feat cuts across all levels including Lagos West senatorial seat.
Senator Adeola better known as “Yayi” also promised not to renege in his effort to ensure that the constituents he represents continue to have a good feel of the dividends of democracy through constituency projects.
“I love my constituents as much as they do love me. And I want to assure them that more projects will be facilitated across the constituency.” He added.
He assured that more of what had been done since he resumed office at the red chamber of the national Assembly would come their way as he seeks to retain his mandate at the polls.
