- Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD)
This is a global civil society initiative in support of the international decade for people of African descent, proclaimed by United Nation’s General assembly resolution 68/237. It was founded by Kamil Olufowobi, a Nigerian entrepreneur and global diversity advocate in 2015. The aim of the initiative was to identify and celebrate high achievers of African descent in public and private sectors all around the world.
In recognizing these individuals, the platform publishes annual list such as the “Mipad Global Most Influential 100,” “MIPAD Global Top 40 under 40,” MIPAD Global Top 50 Finance and Capital Edition and “MIPAD Global Top 50 Philantropy and Social Impact Edition,” amongst others.

- Barka Award (African Diaspora Network)
Barka Award is presented during the annual African Diaspora Investment Symposium (ADIS) organized by the African Diaspora Network in Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C. The word Barka is an expression of gratitude found in several African languages and cultures.
The Award honors individuals for their distinguished contribution to Africa and the African diaspora community. First introduced in 2016, the award has become one of the Africa Diaspora Network highest honors, celebrating leadership, service and commitment to the advancement of Africa and its diaspora.
Notable recipients include Sir Mo Ibrahim, a businessman and philantropist; Agnieszka Winkler, founder of the Winkler Group; and Dr Amadou Alpha Sall, Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Arboviruss and Viral Hemorhagic.
- African Diaspora Luminaire Awards
The Luminaire Award is an award that celebrates visionary leaders from Africa and the diaspora who have made high-level impact in philanthropy, entrepreneurship, global health and economic development. Like the Barka Award, it is presented during the annual African Diaspora Investment Symposium (ADIS), organized by the African Diaspora Network in Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C.
The aim of the award is to honor individuals whose work reflects a deep commitment to advancing the African continent and uplifting global communities. Past Luminaire Award winners include Motaz Attalla, a philantropy and education policy leader recognized for advancing diaspora- led transformation and social change; and Dr Menghis Bairu, physician and biotech leader recognized for advancing healthcare systems in Africa, among others.
- The Global African Diaspora Awards (GADA)
Founded in December 2023 by Obi West Utchaychukwu, a Nigerian media personality and global traveller, the Global African Diaspora Awards (GADA) recognizes top performers who are committed to changing the narrative and making their voices heard in their chosen fields. Its aim is to honor Africans who continue to promote and champion Africa’s interests in the global stage.
The official producer of the Global African Diaspora Awards (GADA) is Diaspora Glitz Magazine, an Afrocentric Magazine. The award consists of several categories such as Attorney of the Year, Insurance Broker of the Year, Media Personality of the Year, Fashion Designer of the Year and Healthcare Provider of the Year.
- Saavy Initiative Recognition Awards (SIRA)
The Savvy Initiative Recognition Awards is a recognition platform founded by Ayodeji Agod Savage, a Nigerian enterpreneur, project manager and social impact advocate under the Savvy Initiative in 2024. It was established with the aim of celebrating excellence and bringing attention to the contributions of Africa in the diaspora across various fields.
SIRA recognizes African global talents who are making waves in sectors such as technology, healthcare, advocacy, business, sports and other industries and fields. The award spotlight individuals whose work contributes to innovation, leadership and positive social change in their communities and beyond.
SIRA categories include Philanthropic Endeavors (Nile), Outstanding Achievement (Giza), Lifetime Achievement (Kilimanjaro), Honorary Award (Baobab), History Maker (Iroko) and Entertainment (Serengeti).
Notable awardees include Bola Adeniyi, a cyber security expert and women empowerment advocate; Almash Negaz, CEO of the African Diaspora Network; Lara Ezobi and Ayowale Alao, co-founders of Serenity Health; Hugh Molotsi, a technology and product leader; and Mikka Mosby, CEO of Just Mikk Extensions.
